Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026
This policy explains what RigMap ("RigMap", "we") collects when you use the RigMap iPhone app and this website, why, and the choices you have. RigMap is in beta, and this policy will be updated as the app changes.
The short version
- You don't create an account. RigMap doesn't ask for your name, email or phone number to use the app.
- Your location is used to show the map, calculate truck routes and give turn-by-turn directions.
- Reports you choose to send (parking, scale status, diesel prices, ratings, road problems) are shared anonymously with other drivers.
- We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and the app contains no advertising or analytics trackers.
What the app collects and why
| Data | Why it's used | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Precise location | Show where you are, find nearby places, calculate routes, guide you turn by turn, including in the background while navigating. | Processed on your phone. Your start point, stops, destination and, when rerouting, your current position are sent to RigMap's routing servers to calculate the route. |
| Route points | Weather ahead, live traffic on the route line, and the route's truck safety score. | Sent to RigMap's servers. Points along the route are sent to weather providers and may be sent to a traffic provider (Mapbox, or Google through our server). |
| Searches | Find addresses, businesses and places you type. | Sent to the map and place search providers that return the results. |
| Truck profile | Height, weight, length, width and axles make routes legal for your truck; hazmat classes for the trip. | Stored on your phone and included in route requests to RigMap's routing servers. |
| Team access code | Unlock the beta for your team. | Checked by RigMap's server and stored on your phone. |
| Reports you send | Parking status, weigh station status, diesel price, ratings, road reports with an optional note, truck entrances, and no-truck road marks. | Stored in our cloud database (Google Firebase) with the location of the stop or report and shown to other drivers. Reports are not tied to your name. |
| App identifier | A random identifier the app creates to keep your saved cameras in sync. | Stored in our cloud database. It isn't linked to your name or phone number. |
| Route quality signals | Anonymous events such as which border crossing you chose, used to improve routes. | Stored in our cloud database. |
| RigMap IQ questions | Answer questions about your route when you tap Ask or Analyze. | Your question and route details are sent through RigMap's server to an AI provider (Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude). Nothing is sent unless you tap. |
| Voice commands | Hands-free search. | Handled by Apple's speech recognition under Apple's privacy policy. |
| Photos and camera | Only when you choose to attach or capture an image. | Used only for the feature you chose. |
| Navigation log | A diagnostic log kept on your phone to troubleshoot navigation. | Stays on your phone. It is never uploaded automatically. |
Services we use
RigMap relies on these providers to work. Each handles data under its own privacy policy.
- Mapbox draws the map and may provide traffic data for your route, which means sampled points along the route are sent to Mapbox. Its map software may also send anonymous usage data to Mapbox.
- Google: Firebase stores driver reports; Google Places powers place search; Google route traffic data may be used for traffic colours.
- Weather providers (Open-Meteo and the US National Weather Service) receive route points to return forecasts.
- Transportation agencies: camera images and video load directly from state and provincial agency servers, which can see your IP address.
- AI providers (Google Gemini, Anthropic) answer RigMap IQ questions you choose to ask.
- Apple distributes the beta through TestFlight and provides speech recognition.
- RigMap's own servers calculate routes, check access codes and score routes. They may keep short-term technical logs to keep the service running and fix problems.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent personal information.
- We don't use your data for advertising or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- We don't include advertising or analytics software in the app.
Your choices
- Location: change RigMap's location permission any time in iPhone Settings. Navigation needs location to work.
- Reports: sending reports is optional.
- IQ and voice: these run only when you use them.
- Delete the app to remove everything RigMap stores on your phone.
- Requests: to ask about, correct or delete information connected to you, such as a report you sent, contact us with the approximate time and place. Because there are no accounts, those details help us find it.
How long we keep data
Driver reports are kept while they're useful to other drivers and may be kept in combined form, such as an average rating. Server technical logs are kept for a short time. Information on your phone stays until you delete it or the app.
Security
We use access controls on our servers and cloud database, and the keys for our AI and traffic services are kept on our servers rather than in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect the data we handle.
Where data is processed
RigMap's servers and our providers may process data outside your province, state or country, including in the United States, Canada and Europe.
Children
RigMap is made for professional drivers and isn't intended for anyone under 18.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or ad trackers. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. If you pick a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your own browser. The contact form opens your email app; nothing is sent to us until you send the email.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and update the effective date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app or the TestFlight release notes.
